So I'll start with one of the photos David took which shows my side yard and the partial construction of the new garage next door.
This shows the same area with two of the five beds removed. A third has had the sides removed and is awaiting its contents to be transported to the back yard. This required lots of trips with the wheelbarrel followed by lots of Advil.
The area where the long white garage resides once had 3 huge trees. One was a very healthy oak and it saddened us when it was removed. I intend to plant fast growing shrubs against the fence.
The dirt from the raised beds was moved to this area. I am raising the back part of the yard by about 1 and 1/2 feet. I'm then digging out an area where a retaining wall will be installed.
Just me and my new best friend--the trusty shovel.
Lastly I wanted to share a close up of my asters. They went crazy with more sun and grew taller than I am high. The bees have been all over them, to the point where there is just this low background hummmmm whenever I out back working.
So that's the end of this tour. Hopefully, as I get the retaining wall in and some new plantings, you'll all want to come visit. Or, if you really feel sorry for me, you'll just show up with a shovel in hand.

Linda,
You did all that by yourself, good for you? The physical activity is great for the old bod, even with the help of Advil. What kind of rock for the retaining wall? When do the Hedge and Crepe Mrytles go in?
Weird white space at the end of your post!
David
Fixed the white space.

Wow Mom, this is a lot more progress than I thought! How exciting that you're doing such a big landscaping project. Finally! Our backyard was in dire need of repair.

Ouch, Linda, you make me feel embarressed. I keep putting off putting in my new walkway on the south side of our house where the boardwalk used to be. This summer I was really too busy, but have said that next year I at least need to bring the mantis tiller from the farm to prepare the soil. And here you are with spade & shovel. Beautiful asters!
