We survived Charli's birthday party!

On Sat., Oct. 25, we threw a Halloween birthday party for Charli at Anderson Conservation. Thanks to Deb Karwal for opening it for us and for helping out, as well as to Janet for pitching in, too. Seven of Charli's classmates came to help her celebrate, and they all had a great time. Weather cooperated, and the kids were able to spend plenty of time outside, too. Pics with comments follow.

First, the kids decorated bags to collect their candy from our owl pinata, which Curt made.

Next the kids dug into a box of wood pieces Deb keeps at the nature center for kids to build with. She challenged them to put together the whole tree.

Charli aka Hermione Granger led the next round of fun: pin the head on the skeleton.

Then the kids lined up to bob for apples. Who knew this old tradition would be such a favorite? Cynthia, in the bottom picture, went all out and was the champ by far. She pulled 5 apples out of the tub.

To give the kids a chance to dry off, we went in for cake (I made and decorated it!), brownie cheesecake, and . . .

Green witches' brew punch! Again thanks to Deb for the cauldron and tips to create our steaming brew.

After eating, the kids were ready to go on a scavenger hunt. We put them in two teams of four, and the prize, which everybody got, was . . . .

feeding Deb's Venus fly trap and . . .

looking at her newspaper composting worms!

Finally it was time for the pinata. Poor Hedgwig was not long for this world!

Princess Faith led off. In the perfect conclusion, the last kid to take a turn, Brock, broke the owl open!

The owl and cake looked terrific! Did Curt make the owl? So glad the weather cooperated. How will you top this next year? Linda

That's one helluva B-day. I had a birthday party once when I was 7. Mostly we just ran around playing war games, raising hell and stuff until it was time for cake and ice cream.

At Randy Pelzer's birthday, his mom loaded us all up in their station wagon and we drove up to Atlantic to see "Old Yeller". We all cried, then drove back to Randy's house and ate cake and ice cream.

My advice to Curt, regards to the pic where he's stirring the caldron: Lite Beer and situps.

Nice looking owl.

I had so much fun helping out with Charli's party; it was a lot of work for you, Cherie & Curt, but you made some great memories for Charli.
They were a nice group of friends, too. Really nice kids!

Did the kids like the worms?

The kids loved the worms and the Venus fly trap. Deb Karwal and her creepy critters are a hit with all the school kids in Montgomery County. The Icky Factor is as much fun as it is scary.

Next time you're here, Lydia, we'll go see her hissing cockroaches!
