Switzerland

After 5 days in London, we flew to Milan, and took the airport van to Lugano, about an hour away.

Reunited!

Lugano is on Lago Lugano, the next lake over from Lake Como, and has been a fancy resort town for the rich for over 200 years.

The hill rises steeply from the lakeside, so they thoughtfully provided a funicular to go the 1/4 mile from the lakeside hotels to the train station. Fare was about a dollar (1.10 Chf).

In addition to the hotels, there is fancy shopping along the narrow streets. (I know where our local malls are drawing there inspiration! But its not the same!)

You can stop for a cafe macchiato at any time. This is also the place to get pizza! Swiss pizza has ruined me for the American stuff. Domino's says they have totally remade their pizzas, satisfaction guaranteed! Beep! Wrong answer, thank you for playing!

The lakeside promenade.

Student housing, Franklin style.

The large building on the right is student housing, as is the smaller black building on the left. The small black building is the one Lydia lived in her first year at Franklin.

This is a pathway Lydia took walking from her dorm up to the campus.

This is on the campus.

We are there for a student fashion show, MC'd by Lydia's good friend Jackson, and featuring a skit which has Grant Hale, Lydia's major professor, as a "Judge".

Among the fashion models, two Binladen sisters.

Before the fashion show.

Graduation was at a large civic concert hall.

They said no photography, so this is the only one I have inside the hall (everyone else was just snapping away of course).

Graduate, Franklin College 2010, Magna Cum Laude.

Lots of Mom - Daughter bonding.

Curious about the fashion show. Would like to have seen pics - perhaps the Bin Laden sisters?

No pictures from the fashion show.

The Binladen sisters were thin, dark haired, dark eyed.

50% of the dresses at the fashion show were tight stretchy mini-dresses which the models were almost constantly pulling up and pulling down trying to avoid a wardrobe malfunction. That is when they weren't trying to avoid falling off their 4" platform heels.

That included the Binladen girls.

... so they wore their mini-dresses over their berkas?

Congrats to Lydia, I'm proud to say that I share some DNA with such a fine student.

Just now got on Hertzel's laptop and looked up the blog; my computer is malfunctioning again.
Just a wonderful series of photos from Lydia's graduation and your European trip. Enjoyed the comments as well.
And I'll second what David said about being proud of
