You should all be interested to know that Uncle Bud is going on a very interesting one day
pilgrimadge to DC. A large landowner who likes to see himself as a philanthropist of sorts and who has roots in SW Iowa is paying to fly WWII Vets from SW Iowa to DC to visit Arlington and the WWII Veterans Memorial there. Of course there are darn few of those guys around anymore and especially with enough stamina to make a one day trip to DC and back with a tour
in between.
Uncle Bud is going to attempt it and I believe they are travelling Sept. 17th or thereabouts.
We need to send him our best wishes and prayers because its going to be an EXHAUSTING FEAT!
Personally, I think Mr. Charles Lakin, the philathropist in question, ought to swing for an overnight for these guys while he's at it!

I've seen a lot about this recently. It's a nation-wide charitable drive to get all the living WWII vets to the memorial. Wouldn't Dad have loved it?
I'm glad he's going. I may try to stop by Friday afternoon before my physical therapy session to wish him well.
