What could be more American than that?
The theme this year was Marin County's agricultural heritage.
There was an exhibit of photos from the 1920's by the first agricultural advisor.
There was a wall of photos by Art Rogers from Pt. Reyes Station, many from his "Yesterday and Today" project.
And some that just documented typical Marin County yuppies.
David, you will remember Art Rogers, from meeting Jim Scanlon (RIP), and hearing about "String of Puppies" the Art Rogers photograph of Jim and his wife and the six puppies they were fostering, which was appropriated by Jeff Koons for a "transformative" work of art. (He told the sculptors to make the puppies blue, and that is why Jeff makes the big bucks, and Art doesn't.)
Clo was at the fair:
You remember Clo from her billboards.
There was the usual assortment of fair food:
Linda and Lydia got themselves beer and gyros.
We checked out the commercial vendors - Kitchen Craft cookware and Qi-Kong massage:
The garden exhibit:
There were all the usual 4-H projects:
Wine making:

Chickens:

Goats:
Llamas:
And even this animal that I didn't recognize.......

A quick trip thru the origami exhibit,

the fine arts building with the bonsai,
and another fair is in the books.
We will look out our bathroom window tonight and see if we can see the fireworks.

Nice pictures, the ag part of the fair would have been interesting.
Sorry to hear Jimmy Scanlon passed away - kind of a character
Noticed the lack of Tex-Mex at the food booths. David
Among the traveling food trucks there was a large BBQ/Mexican stand and also a large Thai stand. No BBQ amongst the local groups though.
Greek food booth -- that's about the only thing that can get me to a fair anymore. That or really good music. You guys must have been missing the midwest!
.....But a good way to gear up for an Iowa trip! David
Really good music? The FREE shows at the fair:
- Dickey Betts and Great Southern
- Starship
- Los Lobos
- Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
- Steel Pulse
- Preservation Hall Jazz Band
- The Temptations
Also not to forget the Las Gallinas Sanitary District Non-Marching Band and the Ohana Friends of the Ukulele! (Ya gotta hear "Honky Tonk Woman" played by 20 ukuleles!)
Betts, Los Lobos, Jett would have been my picks. Give us a taste of "Honky Tonk Woman" why don't ya?
David
