Well I've never posted anything to a blog before so I'll be learning my way around this. Maybe will even post some photos at some point.
Just had a great week off from work with brother David here. Managed to get some culture in with some trips to SF museums. One day was spent in Napa Valley where we visited the Miner Family vineyard. I'm hoping David will post some of the photos. We both bought some wine there and I even purchased 4 stemless wine glasses with "Miner" etched on the bottom.
David helped get my backyard project off the ground--no pun intended. We started scraping off the first couple of inches of dry turf. I don't water my backyard--only my veggies and perennials. But since my neighbor cut down 3 big trees, my backyard gets more sun and it looks pretty bad. My neighbor agreed to dig up the roots on my side of the fence so that helps. My plan is to get some trees and shrubs in the ground before the rains begin in late October, always assuming that's when they will start, plus break down some old, delapidated raised beds and move the dirt to the back yard to fill in some depressed areas. Then mulch, mulch, mulch. Hopefully, next spring I'll have my real plan in place.
I'm also taking off Mon, Tue, and Wed to help Lydia get ready for her departure to Franklin in Lugano, Switz. She leaves early on Wed. morning and won't return until mid-December. We are having to be very selective in what goes into two suitcases--50 lbs. limitation.
Any thoughts on the Olympics? Have enjoyed watching but the good stuff comes on too late for me. I'm in bed by 10:00 p.m. and miss the primo events. Parts of the opening ceremony blew me away. The scale and precision seemed very Chinese.
Ok. That's it from me for this posting. Hope we can all make use of this as we are getting very spread out.

I wanna go to Switzerland…
Good to see that the family is taking advantage of this 21st century technology. You're making sure Mom is in the loop with this? I'd love for her to be blogging.
Good to hear you're keeping yourself busy in the dirt. Here and there I catch a glimpse of it, but mostly I see concrete and dog poo.un
So what's the master plan for this backyard? Replacing most of the grass with garden and shrubs and such?
I think it's cool as hell Lydia is going out to school in Switzerland.
It sounds crazy and rather stressful trying to fit all the important objects of one's life into two suitcases and transplant yourself to another country.
I suppose you're fairly used to that by now though Lyd?
